You’ve seen the marketing, you’ve read the testimonials and you believe you too can make money online. The promise is that it is simple and easy to make money online. In reality it can be simple and might be easy but you need a good blueprint to follow if you want to be successful. This article gives you that blueprint for success.
The first step to success is to identify a profitable niche. What I mean by niche is a smaller market than the ones that the big companies go after. The reason for pursuing a small niche is that the big companies can’t afford to go after every little niche and instead market to large segments of the population. There’s an expression: “generalists get paid but specialists get wealthy.” In a world of over 6 billion people, small niche specialists can and do make lots of money.
The next thing you need to do is to find or create interesting relevant content for people interested in your niche. You can write articles, record videos or audio podcasts, find pictures or other people’s content and bring them all into one place where people interested in your niche can find them.
Once people start showing up, you want to make an irresistible offer so that they will opt-in. Opting in means they give you their email address and therefore their permission to be marketed to. Your goal is to develop a targeted list of high-quality prospects. These contacts are high-quality because they’re interested in your specialized niche. And they are prospects because they are not yet customers.
Many marketers will tell you this is when you start selling to your prospects. I’m going to tell you that would be a mistake. You see one of the things that marketers often miss is the need to build a relationship with their followers. Without that relationship, you’re just someone else selling junk on the Internet. On the other hand, if you build a good relationship with your prospects, they will be very interested in products that you offer at a later time.
It will probably take some time, certainly weeks and maybe months, to build that relationship with your prospects. This is the point where most Internet marketers fail. In the rush to make money fast, they fail to take the time to build relationships with their prospects. But if you take the time to build a solid relationship with your prospects, you will come to be seen as an authority in your specialized niche. And being an authority often brings trust.
As you develop a quality list of qualified prospects, and build trust, you’ll be able to start offering quality products. At that point, you need to decide if you want to create products or simply to offer other people’s products for sale. When I say products and I am speaking of physical products like you would buy in a retail store as well as information products such as courses and seminars. Both physical and information products provide an opportunity to generate profits.
Always provide quality products that provide real value to your customers. Never offer any product that you would not own or use yourself. Ask yourself, “would you ever be interested in buying a from a sales person who doesn’t drive that brand of car?” Remember that you spent a lot of time and effort to present yourself as a trusted authority in your niche. Don’t damage your reputation by offering junk to your prospects.
